Vince Papale: Fulfilling the Childhood Dreams

-Vincent Francis Papale was born on February 9, 1946 in Glenolden, Pennsylvania.  His parents were Francis Papale and Almaria Papale.  He went to high school at Interboro High School where he started to do track.  His coach was George Corner who became one of his favorite coaches throughout his life.  Vince then played basketball because George Corner started coaching it and asked him to play.  He liked his coach so much that when he when he went on to coach football, Vince to played too.  In his only year of football in high school, Vince received the All-Delaware County Honorable Mention award.

-He eventually went on to college at Philadelphia's Saint Joseph's University and did not play football there.  Vince lettered in basketball, track and field, and football, but had a scholarship for track and field.  He was a long jumper, pole vaulter, and triple jumper at Interboro and excelled at it.  The reason he did not play football in college is because they did not have a football team.

-After college, Vince became a teacher at his old school he went to, Interboro High School.  He was a coach for the football team during his teaching years.  He and his played in bar football leagues where he broke his ribs and his nose.  It was said that there was always an ambulance nearby the fields since injuries happened so often.  Vince did play football after college though; he played for the Aston Green Knights.  Then, he played for the Philadelphia Bell after his years with the Knights and did not contribute to the team very much on offense but stood out on special teams.  He played for the Philadelphia Bell for two years and got a job tending a bar after.  Dick Vermeil then asked Vince and a couple others to private tryouts to help improve his team.  He became the oldest rookie in history at that time at the age of thirty to play in the National Football League.  During his last year as an Eagle, he made about $45,000.  His career was cut short due to a shoulder injury in the preseason.  After, Vince went to work as a radio and television broadcaster.

-Aside from Vince's football life, he fell in love with Sandy Bianchini and married her.  The marriage did not last though as she left him a note criticizing him about his life decisions.  He then married for a second time to Janet and they had two children named Gabriella and Vincent.  They currently live in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.  Vince is the Regional Director of Marketing for Sallie Mae.
